Bilateral issues on trade in live pigs were discussed with the Polish Chief Veterinary Officer

On 14 January, Mr. Darius Remeika, Director of the State Food and Veterinary Service of Lithuania and Dr. Paweł Niemczuk, Head of the competent veterinary authority of Poland, had a technical meeting to discuss the requirements and conditions for bilateral trade in live pigs.

During the meeting, the officials discussed the application of control and preventive measures with regard to African swine fever (ASF) in both countries and the technical requirements for trade in pigs from the regions falling under the ASF Part II area. The Chief Veterinary Officers of both countries agreed on the application of technical requirements and on the mechanisms of information exchange between Lithuania and Poland.

It was stressed that this technical meeting had been arranged to facilitate the agreement between Ministers of Agriculture of both countries in order to resume the trade in live pigs between the two countries.
