Strengthening of food safety control, food control laboratories in Lithuania
The aim of this project is to assure standards on food safety in line with the relevant EU legislation. The purposes of the project are to strengthen administrative and technical capacities and professional skills of food inspectors and laboratory staff, to develop and implement the system for control of foodstuffs via development of necessary documents and computer programs.
The project ends in the 3rd quarter of 2005.

Strengthening of official control of animal health and food safety through implementation of veterinary information management system
With a view to strengthening the animal health and food control system in the Republic of Lithuania the project purposes are to establish veterinary information management system, to ensure animal health and food safety by strengthening the administrative and technical capacities of State Food and Veterinary Service and National Veterinary Laboratory through an improved control of animal welfare and animal health on the spot, sampling, sample identification, sample flow into and within laboratory, notification of test results to the notification system, checks on the spot and control of inspections from central level, to improve the level of training of the staff responsible for the inspections and follow-up checks; to implement full traceability throughout the official food safety and animal health control system.

Strengthening of official control of food safety and residues in food in the Republic of Lithuania
The aim of this project is to strengthen the implementation of annual residues control programmes, to ensure consumer safety by strengthening the administrative and technical capacities of State Food and Veterinary Service and National Veterinary Laboratory (NVL) through improved control of veterinary drugs, pesticide residues, PCBs, dioxins, heavy metals and other contaminants in food, to strengthen the technical capacities of NVL via supplying it with modern equipment for the implementation of new testing and confirmatory methods for PCBs, dioxins, veterinary drugs residues, metals in food and drinking water.

Food safety (phase II) — Official control of veterinary medicinal products and feedingstuffs
With a view to ensure consumer safety through the safety of food, to warrant safety, quality and efficacy of veterinary medicinal products in the Republic of Lithuania and safety and quality of the feedingstuffs used in the feeding of animals, the aim of this project is to strengthen administrative and technical capacities of Lithuanian State Inspection on Veterinary Preparations, to enhance professional capacity of the staff in laboratory and statistical survey of data, to enhance professional capacity of the responsible staff in the field of control of feed products and veterinary medicinal products.
The project ends in 2006.
SFVS plans to pursue the project: Strengthening animal health control and contingency planning capacities (2005)
The purpose of the project is to ensure appropriate measures for eradication of animal diseases in emergency situations and obtain best results with respect to the prevention of diseases and avoid new outbreaks.
